Priest – Shadow and Holy Powers
Written by admin.

Priests are known to be very capable healers in WoW. It must be said however, that priests can also dish out a lot of damage. When you decide to play with the priest class you can choose between several races. The Horde faction has Blood Elf, Undead and Troll priests in it’s ranks. If you role Alliance you can choose between a Human, Dwarf, Night Elf and Draenei race. Each race has its own racial abilities so have a look at these before you make your character because some are more useful for a priest than others.

Priests use mana to cast both their offensive and healing spells and in order to be efficient at what they do they need to generate mana so a lot of spirit is needed, intellect is needed to give them a mana pool and spell power is needed to make their spells more powerful. As each other class the priest has three talent trees available to him and these are Discipline, Holy and Shadow. Click here to watch the video: Priest Guide

The First talent tree I would like to discuss is the Holy talent tree which is designed for priests with a PvE healing aspiration. Spells like Guardian Spirit and Circle of Healing will become available to the priest through this talent tree and together with the spells every priest has and the other great talents that can be found in this talent tree, a Holy priest is one of the better healers in the game. The Shadow talent tree gives the priests the ability to do a lot of damage.

Shadow Priests have several damage over time spells like Devouring Plague and Shadow Word Pain which are very effective. Some of the spells the Shadow talent tree will provide the priest with make the priest a valuable team member for every group and raid because they restore mana and hitpoints to fellow players. Priests who are more into the PvP game play will definitely choose the Discipline tree. Because the discipline tree makes the priest a tough cookie with damage absorbing talents and nice new spells, it’s a nice choice.

Priests are also famous for their buffs: Power Word Fortitude, Spirit buff and Shadow Protection buff. Besides these buffs they can resurrect others, dispel diseases and magic effects, shackle undead NPCs, fear others, burn other’s mana and more. Threat plays an important role in WoW and luckily the Priests can fade when they get a bit too much agro to reduce their threat. When it comes to the armor, Priests are purely cloth wearers which means that their armor is solely made from cloth. Priests have a lot of mana and do not have a lot of hitpoints because they are not meant to take a lot of hits. If you want to become a Shadow priest you will have to focus on specific equipment. You should aim for a lot of spirit, intellect, spell power,  and hit and crit rating.

Healing priests should aim for the same stats but they can leave out the hit rating and take haste rating instead. One downside of a priest is leveling it because it takes quite a bit of time, even if you decide to level it as a Shadow priest. When you get the Shadow Form somewhere around level 40 it will all start to go a lot faster and at higher levels even if you choose to become a full healer be assured you will be needed in any instance group or a raid, since healers have always been a necessity in the World of Warcraft.
