A few days ago I decided to create a new Blood Elf character. Since I wasn’t up for grinding my way to higher levels (again), I decided to buy the Zygor Horde Guide and see if it would really help level my character faster. Here are my impressions from the first couple of days of using Zygor.

Some History

I hadn’t found previous leveling guides to be of much use. As much as anything else, that’s because of the way you had to keep jumping in and out of the game to consult the guide. It was a major headache. Eventually, I set up a second computer. I played the game on one and read the guide on the other. Not only was it a pain in the neck, but it disrupted the flow and pulled my head out of the game world whenever I had to consult the guide.

Why Zygor Guides are Better

Zygor Guides work within World of Warcraft. How is that different than the old guides I used? It means that the guide information appears in a window right inside the game. With this kind of presentation, the information is much more accessible, and feels like an integrated part of the game. This makes the entire experience vastly better and more enjoyable.

You’re also in control of the amount of information the guide gives you. If I just want to focus on in-the-moment action, I can close the Zygor Guide window completely. You can have a small window with the minimal amount of information, just enough to let you know what your next objective is. If I really want help, I can switch to the large Zygor Guide window with just a click, and get tons of information about my current situation and what I need to do next.

There’s even an interactive arrow that you can display on the screen, showing you the distance and direction of the next objective. You get all the information you need without ever having to look away from the game.

Does This Thing Get You Through the Levels Faster?

If you’re like me you’re probably thinking this all sounds really cool, but are wondering if my Zygor Horde Guide actually helped me to level faster? Well, I did a test. My brother had a character that was several levels higher than mine, who got there the old-fashioned way. He offered to have his character escort mine for a bit. I told him about my Zygor Horde Guide and that I wanted to do this on my own to see how it went. We went our separate ways. A few hours later he decided to check in on me and see how it was going. His reaction says all you need to know about how well these guides work. His first comment was, “Hey! How the #3$%^& did your guy get so big so fast? Can my guy come with yours next time?”
